Itinerary at the Sassi:

  • Piazza V. Veneto: panoramic view of Sasso Barisano, first historical information of the city.
  • Civita, Cathedral in Roman Puglia style (only on the outside, closed for refurbishment)
  • Itinerary in Sasso Caveoso among stairs, sceneries, neighborhoods and reservoirs.
  • Caves – typical excavated houses in the rock re-used as wineries.
  • Local artisan workshop that make Nativity scenes in papier mache and objects in terracotta. The workshop, an excavated cave in the rock, was used as a house until 1950.

At the end of the itinerary, tasting of typical products as the Bread of Matera, made with the finest of durum wheat flour and dressed with olive oil of the best quality, the fennel taralli, the fragrant cruschi peppers, all accompanied with Aglianico wine.
